Mouse in the Maze
I retired from teaching four years ago. My career ranged from teaching in large city schools, where pupils danced on the doorstep of my prefabricated classroom, positioned next to an outside toilet in London, to a small private school in Limassol, Cyprus where men with moustaches, avoiding a Saudi Arabian compulsory army conscription, pretended to be 15. I have taught Religious Education, Drama and English. There was a Maths class taught in Greek tucked away in there somewhere.

I moved to Inverness, Scotland in 1989. I stood on a footbridge across the River Ness that first morning, gazed at the castle up river, and heard my heart say, ‘Home’. My husband and I have lived in Inverness, Scotland for over thirty years. We talk about getting a dog.

I have been writing poetry, short stories and devotionals for a number of years. Over thirty years ago I walked into a college intending to sign up for an evening class on counselling. There was a clipboard on the counter for creative writing. The pen meandered over, and I discovered a sweet spot.

I have self-published two collections of poetry, “Wider Than the Corners of This World” and “A Thousand Dulux Shades of Life”. My poetry has also been featured in the poetry collection "Learning to Love" and two of my short stories are included in an anthology “Milk and Cookies”.

I am currently studying part time at the University of Highlands and Islands. If things go according to plan, I should receive a BA in Creative Writing when I will be 70 years old.
